Scan, Shift : A Series

Created entirely using flatbed scanner technology.

PROCESS:

These prints result from a highly experimental process of taking a range of line patterns I drew (of varied thickness and transparency) along with coral specimens from the RISD Nature Lab, then testing different ways of layering and moving (rotating, swiping, zig-zagging, rolling, shaking, twisting, etc.) them at different speeds across an active scanner bed.

Intrigued with the distortions produced, I experimented with digitally layering them to produce a final set of six compositions.

Chosen from nearly a hundred trials, below are a few of the original scans used.
